We are thrilled to welcome Claire Currado, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist to our practice. We invite you to take a few minutes to get to know Claire and see if working with her might be a fit for you!
What led you into becoming a therapist?
I became a therapist because I’ve always been drawn to understanding people’s stories and the ways relationships shape who we are. Over time, I realized how meaningful it is to sit with someone during the moments when they feel most stuck or unseen and help them find clarity, hope, and connection again. Being able to support people in navigating relationships and fostering change felt like a natural fit for me.
What part of the job do you find most rewarding?
The therapeutic process is so rewarding for me - being invited into someone’s inner world, earning their trust, and creating a space where they feel safe enough to explore and heal is something I value every day.
What part of the job do you find most challenging?
What I find challenging is supporting clients who are doing everything they can to grow while still navigating systems or environments that make change harder. It reinforces the importance of compassion and advocacy, but it can be difficult to witness those external barriers. I often have to remind myself that focusing on what is within our control is all we can do sometimes.
Who are your professional/ personal role models?
I’ve been fortunate to have supervisors who modeled what thoughtful, ethical, and compassionate clinical work looks like. Their guidance has shaped the therapist I am today. On a personal level, my husband is a constant source of support and inspiration. His patience, empathy, and ability to genuinely connect with others continually motivate me in my work.
What's a guilty pleasure TV show or movie?
My husband and I love to rewatch the Supernatural series every so often. I can also get behind some reality TV when I can handle the drama (sometimes it gets to be too much for me)!
What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?
In 2018, I packed my car up and moved up here (to Syracuse) to pursue grad school, despite not knowing a single person in the area. I am so glad that I did, but it was a pretty scary experience for me!
